The Mediterranean country requested the envoy's presence on the weekday to challenge what it said were crude, disturbing and unacceptable remarks by Moscow's foreign ministry spokeswoman who connected the fatal incident of a structure in Italy to Italy's military support for Ukraine. The Italian foreign minister stated that the country would not change its diplomatic approach or its principles in answer to careless statements. The Russian embassy in Rome later expressed sympathy for the passing of a construction employee in the incident but used the chance to object that the angry response to the remarks was prejudiced toward the federation.
